Freshii Sundance in SE Calgary offers a wide range of gluten-free options across our bowls, salads, smoothies, and juices. Whether you have celiac disease, non-celiac gluten sensitivity, or simply prefer to minimize gluten in your diet, our kitchen can build a complete, satisfying meal. Which Menu Categories Are Gluten-Free?
Bowls ✓
Our grain and green bowls are inherently gluten-free when built on brown rice or a greens base with gluten-free toppings and dressings. The rice is naturally gluten-free, as are most of our vegetable toppings, proteins (chicken, shrimp, tuna, tofu with proper preparation), and many dressings. Our poke bowls are also largely gluten-free with the right sauce selection.
Salads ✓
Our garden salads and chopped salads are naturally gluten-free when built without croutons. All leaf bases (romaine, kale, spinach, mixed greens) are gluten-free. Smoothies ✓
All of our protein smoothies and smoothie bowls are made with fruit, plant-based milk, and protein powders — the base is gluten-free. The one consideration for smoothie bowls is granola topping (see below).
Cold-Pressed Juices ✓
All cold-pressed juices at Freshii Sundance are naturally gluten-free. They are made purely from whole fruits and vegetables with no added ingredients.
Wraps ✗
Our wraps use flour tortillas, which contain gluten. We do not currently offer a certified gluten-free wrap alternative. If you want wrap-style fillings, order any wrap as a bowl instead — same ingredients, same quality, presented on brown rice or greens without the tortilla.
What About Sauces and Dressings?
This is the area requiring the most attention for gluten-sensitive diners. Most of our signature dressings are gluten-free: tahini-based dressings, citrus vinaigrettes, balsamic, and olive oil-based options are all safe. Soy-based sauces (certain poke bowl sauces, teriyaki variations) may contain gluten unless specifically tamari-based. Spicy mayo is typically gluten-free but verify with staff for the current formulation. When ordering, specifically tell our staff you require gluten-free and they will steer you away from any soy-based sauces containing gluten.
What About Granola on Smoothie Bowls?
Granola is made from oats, which are naturally gluten-free — but oats are frequently processed in facilities that also handle wheat, barley, or rye. If you have celiac disease, ask our staff about the current granola product before ordering. We can substitute granola with seeds (chia, hemp hearts, pumpkin seeds) or fresh fruit for a confirmed gluten-free smoothie bowl topping.
Is Freshii a Gluten-Free Kitchen?
Freshii Sundance is not a certified gluten-free kitchen. We operate in a shared food-preparation environment where gluten-containing items (wraps, certain sauces) are also prepared. For customers with celiac disease who react to trace cross-contamination, this is an important consideration. The risk of cross-contamination cannot be fully eliminated in our current kitchen setup. We are transparent about this because managing your own safety requires accurate information. We do take care to separate preparation where possible and will always honour specific dietary communication from customers — but if you require a fully certified gluten-free environment, we want you to make an informed decision.
How Should I Order Gluten-Free at Freshii?
The most effective approach is to communicate your dietary requirement clearly at the counter before ordering. Tell the team member that you are ordering gluten-free. They will guide you through which items and dressings are safe and take care with your preparation. For particularly sensitive cases, visiting during a quieter period (not peak lunch rush) may reduce the complexity of managing cross-contamination precautions.
