Smoothie Bowls at Freshii Sundance — SE Calgary
Freshii Sundance serves thick, topping-loaded smoothie bowls — a blended fruit or acai base too thick to drink, served in a bowl and topped with granola, fresh fruit, seeds, and coconut flakes. Smoothie bowls are nutritionally distinct from drinkable smoothies: the thicker base takes longer to consume, the toppings add texture and satiety, and the overall eating experience is genuinely more filling and satisfying than a liquid smoothie of comparable ingredients. Available for counter service, online pre-order, and delivery across SE Calgary.
What Makes a Smoothie Bowl Different from a Smoothie
The defining difference is texture and format. A drinkable smoothie is consumed in minutes through a straw. A smoothie bowl is eaten with a spoon over 10–15 minutes. This slower consumption pace affects satiety hormones differently — the extended eating time allows satiety signals to develop more fully before the meal is complete, resulting in better hunger satisfaction from a comparable caloric intake. The toppings compound this effect: granola and seeds add dietary fibre and slow-digesting complex carbohydrates that a liquid smoothie does not contain. For customers who find standard smoothies unsatisfying as a meal, the smoothie bowl format typically solves the satiety problem without significantly increasing calories.
Our Smoothie Bowl Menu
Acai Smoothie Bowl
A thick blended acai base — deeply purple, rich in antioxidants — with banana, frozen berry, and a small amount of liquid for blend consistency. Topped with granola, fresh sliced strawberries, banana, blueberries, hemp hearts, chia seeds, and shredded coconut. The acai bowl is our most visually striking smoothie bowl and our most popular. Acai berries contain a distinctive flavour profile (mildly chocolatey, earthy berry) that makes this bowl taste and feel genuinely premium. Naturally vegan. GF option available with a granola swap.
Berry Smoothie Bowl
A mixed berry base (strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, blackberry) blended thick with banana for creaminess. Topped with granola, fresh berry slices, hemp hearts, coconut flakes, and a light honey drizzle (omit for strict vegan). The berry bowl is the most approachable flavour profile for first-time smoothie bowl customers — familiar berry sweetness without the earthier notes of the acai. High in vitamin C and anthocyanins (the blue-purple pigment compounds in berries that provide antioxidant properties).
Banana Peanut Butter Bowl
A frozen banana base blended thick with natural peanut butter and a small amount of almond milk. Topped with granola, sliced banana, dark chocolate nibs, hemp hearts, and peanut pieces. This is our most calorie-dense smoothie bowl and our most filling — the fat content from natural peanut butter significantly extends satiety. Particularly popular as a post-workout recovery smoothie bowl for customers who need a substantial recovery meal in bowl format. See our post-workout meals page for full recovery nutrition guidance. Not suitable for guests with nut allergies.
Adding Protein to Your Smoothie Bowl
Any of our smoothie bowls can be upgraded with a scoop of plant-based protein powder (pea or hemp) blended into the base. This increases the protein content of the bowl significantly — from roughly 8–12g of natural protein to 20–28g with a full protein scoop added. For customers using smoothie bowls as a post-workout recovery meal, adding plant protein brings the bowl into the protein range needed to support muscle recovery. For our full high-protein builds and recovery meal options, see the dedicated pages. Whey protein is also available as an add-on for non-vegan customers.
Smoothie Bowls vs. Grain Bowls for Breakfast
Smoothie bowls are primarily a breakfast or mid-morning format; grain bowls are more typically a lunch or dinner format. The caloric and macronutrient profiles are meaningfully different: smoothie bowls are carbohydrate-forward with moderate fat (from seeds and toppings) and relatively lower protein than a grain bowl. Grain bowls with added protein are typically higher in total protein and more suitable for high-satiety lunch or dinner needs. For a morning meal, smoothie bowls are an excellent choice — for a lunch that keeps you full until dinner, a grain bowl is typically more effective. Our smoothie bowl FAQ covers more comparison detail.
Ordering Smoothie Bowls at Freshii Sundance
Smoothie bowls are available from opening (9:30am weekdays, 10:00am weekends) through closing at 9:30pm. Best consumed within 15–20 minutes of preparation — the granola topping softens after this point. For best quality: order in-store at the counter or use online pre-order at orders.freshii.com and pick up the moment your order is ready. For delivery via DoorDash, Skip, or Uber Eats, smoothie bowls are best ordered for short delivery distances (under 15 minutes) due to topping texture. For longer delivery distances, a drinkable protein smoothie maintains quality better. Breakfast options overview covers our full morning menu.
